🐾 World Otter Day – Celebrating Our Favourite Neighbours! 🦦

This Wednesday is World Otter Day, and here at Stoer Bay Chalets, we’re taking a moment to celebrate one of our favourite local residents – the otter!

We absolutely love these shy, playful creatures, and we’re lucky enough to spot them from time to time in the loch right in front of the chalets and over at Stoer Bay. It’s always a magical moment when one appears, gliding through the water or relaxing on the rocks – a true Highland treasure!

Our love of otters runs deep – in fact, all three of our chalets are named after famous otters:
🦦 Tarka – after Tarka the Otter, the much-loved classic by Henry Williamson
🦦 Mijbil – from Ring of Bright Water, based on the true story of a pet otter in the Scottish Highlands
🦦 Edil – another beautiful name from the world of otters (and a great companion to Mijbil!)

We chose these names because they reflect both our love of wildlife and the peaceful, natural beauty that surrounds us here on the Assynt coast, that make this part of the Highlands so special.

🌿 Otters are a sign of a healthy environment, and we’re proud to be part of a place where they can still thrive. The highlands of Scotland are so lucky to have many hot spots for these beautiful creatures.

Staying with us? Keep your eyes peeled. Early morning or dusk is often the best time to spot them, and low tide on the bay.

📷 If you’re lucky enough to see an otter during your stay, we’d love to hear about it – and we’d be over the moon if you shared a photo or story with us!
